SO I did it!!!! I earned the Certified Professional Photographer (CPP) designation from Professional Photographers of America (PPA)!
I earned this designation after completing an intensive program that measures my artistic and technical competence. Professional Photographers of America currently recognizes fewer than 2,500 CPPs.
Why did I decide to seek certification after being a professional photographer for over 17 years? When COVID happened and we were all stuck at home for a limited amount of time, I made a decision to take a step back and spend time and become an expert on both my business skills and photography skills. I first focused on my business skills-getting my finances in order, writing out my "why" statement, my differentiating factors (what makes me different than other photographers), and taking several classes to develop my expertise at what I do. Part of that was to become a Certified Professional Photographer. Being certified holds me to a higher standard and I wanted to not only prove to myself that I was capable, but show my clients my qualifications to be the best photographer possible for them.
Professional Photographers of America (PPA.com) is the leading body for certifying imaging professionals. CPPs must complete a written examination, finish an image evaluation and adhere to a strict code of conduct. Certification must be renewed on a periodic basis, ensuring continued confidence in the professionalism of Certified Professional Photographers.
