How a Branding Session Helped No Anxiety Prep’s Nicole Show Up as Herself

When you meet Nicole — Nikkee — from No Anxiety Prep, you know within about a minute that she’s the real deal.

She’s been doing this work since 2012, and in that time she’s helped students from 23 states and 11 countries earn admission to top high schools, colleges, and graduate programs — with less stress and more success. That’s the whole promise in her name, and she delivers on it. But when she came to me, she said something I hear from a lot of brilliant people: her image hadn’t caught up to her expertise.

I’m Erica Land, a Rockville-based portrait photographer, and Nicole’s session is one of my favorite examples of what branding photography is actually for. Not vanity. Alignment — making sure the way you show up online finally matches the work you already do.

The gap between good work and good photos

Nicole is refreshingly honest about where she started.

“I started out broke and totally unaware of how powerful branding photos could be. Working with Erica was seamless, glamorous, and 100% worth it.”

That’s the shift I want every client to feel. She’d built something remarkable, but the photos representing it didn’t say so yet. So we set out to fix the gap — to make images that carried the same confidence, warmth, and professionalism she brings to her students and their families every day.

What we made together

We planned the session around who Nicole actually is and where her images needed to work.

The photos we created now show up everywhere her brand lives: her website, her social profiles, her media kits, her LinkedIn, even her trade show displays. That’s the quiet power of doing this once and doing it right — a single session that keeps working across your entire brand, in every place a potential client meets you.

And the results weren’t only visual. Here’s Nicole again, in her own words:

“Since updating my images, I’ve had more LinkedIn reach-outs, media invitations, and compliments from partner orgs. I also just feel more confident — and it shows in how I show up for clients.”

That last line is the one I care about most. The reach-outs and the invitations are wonderful, but feeling more confident, and having it show — that’s the real return. When you believe in how you’re showing up, your audience feels it too.

Why her work resonates with local families

Nicole’s services go well beyond test prep. She coaches students through high school, college, and graduate admissions; guides them on application essays; preps them for the SAT, ACT, and ISEE; helps with scholarship research and course planning; and coaches on resumes and interviews, plus academic paper editing. Everything is personalized and built to lower the stress on students and families.

That kind of achievement-minded, family-focused support is exactly what so many households across Bethesda, Potomac, and the wider Montgomery County area are looking for — which is fitting, because her work has been recognized in Washington Family Magazine’s and Montgomery Magazine’s “Best Of” awards, for honors including best college coach, best college essay editing, best SAT and ACT prep, and best overall tutoring program. When you serve families in a community this driven, your brand has to signal trust immediately. Strong, honest images help it do that.

Nicole’s advice — and mine

I asked Nicole what she’d tell other women building a business, and I think about her answer often:

“Own your unique voice. You won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, and that’s a good thing. Staying true to your brand will always serve you better than trying to please everyone.”

That’s the heart of branding photography, too. The goal was never to make Nicole look like someone else. It was to make her look unmistakably, confidently like herself — so the right students and families recognize her on sight. Helping people feel genuinely seen is the whole reason I do this work.

Your turn

Whether you’re an educator, an entrepreneur, or an executive, your photos should tell your story, your way — and make you feel more like yourself, not less. That’s what a good branding session does.

When you’re ready, book a branding session and let’s create images that show up as confidently as you do. See more of my branding and headshot work here, and a little about me and my why here.

Branding photography FAQ

What is branding photography, exactly?
It’s a set of images that tell the story of you and your business — not just a headshot, but photos of you, your work, and your world that you can use across your website, social media, media kit, and LinkedIn.

Where do you photograph branding sessions?
In my Rockville studio and on location around the DC metro — Bethesda, Potomac, North Bethesda, DC, or your own workplace, chosen to match your brand.

How will I actually use the photos?
Everywhere your brand shows up. Like Nicole, most clients put their images on their website, social profiles, media kits, LinkedIn, and even event or trade show displays.

I’ve been putting this off. Is it worth it?
That’s most of my branding clients when they arrive. The point isn’t to look “perfect” — it’s to have your image finally match your expertise, and to feel more confident showing up. That confidence tends to pay for itself.

How do we start?
With a conversation. We’ll talk through your goals and where your photos need to work, then plan a session around them. Reach out here whenever you’re ready.
