Senior year has a way of arriving all at once. One summer you’re mapping out college tours and last-first-days, and the whole year starts sprinting before it’s even begun. Senior portraits are one of the few moments that ask everyone to slow down for an afternoon — and I’d love to make yours.

I’m Erica Land, a Rockville-based portrait photographer, and I’m now booking high school senior sessions across Montgomery County, McLean, Arlington, and the wider DC metro. If you’re a rising senior this year — hello, Class of 2027 — this is your window. Here’s what booking with me actually looks like, and why families come back for it.

A session built around you, not a template

No two seniors get the same session, because no two seniors are the same. When we start, I want to know who you actually are — the athlete, the artist, the theater kid, the quietly hilarious one — so the whole plan fits you.

That starts with an in-home consultation, where we talk through your vision and design a session around your style and interests. I offer a range of session packages so you can find the one that fits your budget and what you’re picturing. Want a bright outdoor setting, a clean studio look, or photos in the comfort of your own home? Any of it works — just tell me what you’re imagining and we’ll make it happen.

A relaxed day that actually feels good

Here’s the part I care about most: being in front of a camera can feel intimidating, and I refuse to let your session feel that way. I take time to get to know you first, so by the time we’re shooting, you’re relaxed enough to be yourself. The best portraits are always the ones that catch your real personality, not a frozen say-cheese smile.

To help you feel your best, professional makeup artistry is available so you walk in polished and confident. From there, the day is easy and unhurried, at the locations we chose together. I guide every pose, sweat the small details, and keep it genuinely fun. Most seniors forget to be nervous in the first twenty minutes — and that’s when the magic frames happen.

Where we’ll photograph — Montgomery County, McLean & Arlington

Part of what makes senior photos feel real is shooting where your life actually is. My Rockville studio is perfect for a clean, striking look, and from there we go wherever fits you.

In Montgomery County, I photograph seniors from Churchill in Potomac, Whitman, B-CC and Walter Johnson around Bethesda and North Bethesda, and Wootton and Richard Montgomery here in Rockville — with options like downtown Bethesda, Cabin John Regional Park, and Brookside Gardens close at hand. Across the river in McLean, I work with Langley and McLean High School families, with Great Falls Park nearby. And down in Arlington, we can shoot the walkable, brick-and-storefront energy of the Clarendon–Ballston corridor for a grown-up, urban feel. If a spot is meaningful to you, we’ll use it.

Beautiful products you’ll actually keep

Your photos are meant to be held, hung, and handed around — not left sitting on a hard drive. Alongside your digital gallery, I offer beautiful printed products: heirloom albums, wall art for the house, and graduation announcements to send to everyone who’s watched you grow up. We’ll plan for how you want to use your images so they become something real.

A few tips before you book

• Book early. Senior season and the best light fill fast; the sooner we plan, the better your pick of dates and locations.
• Come with a few ideas. Favorite places, an outfit you love, a hobby you want in the frame — bring it all to the consultation.
• Bring your thing. The jersey, the instrument, the cleats, the sketchbook. Real objects make the portraits unmistakably yours.
• Leave breathing room. The best frames rarely happen in the first five minutes.

When should we book senior portraits?
Earlier is better. Most families shoot the summer before or the fall of senior year, and the best light and dates go quickly across Montgomery County, McLean, and Arlington.

What’s included, and can we get prints?
You’ll receive a curated digital gallery, and I offer beautiful printed products too — albums, wall art, and graduation announcements. We’ll plan the right mix for how you want to use your photos.

Is makeup available for the session?
Yes — professional makeup artistry is available so you walk in feeling polished and confident. Just let me know when we plan your session.

My teen is nervous about being photographed. Can you still get great shots?
Almost every senior arrives a little nervous. Getting to know you, guiding every pose, and keeping it fun is exactly my job — the camera-shy ones often love their galleries most.

Where do you photograph senior sessions?
In my Rockville studio and on location — downtown Bethesda, Great Falls Park near McLean, the Clarendon–Ballston area of Arlington, and other spots we choose together.
